Wanderlust: Panama is the World's First Overwater Beach

The Bocas Bali property is an all-inclusive resort that was opened in 2021. It features 16 villas on an island off the Caribbean coast. The property is protected by three miles of coral reefs and offers a paradise for snorkeling and other water sports. Nayara Resorts now has the property in its portfolio of eco-conscious resorts.

Bocas Bali owner Dan Behm explains how the partnership came about. “We chose Nayara due to their ideal cultural fit and proven ability to create extraordinary experiences for our guests,” he said.

Leo Ghitis is the owner of Nayara Resorts and is delighted to welcome the new property to the portfolio. It is a great complement to the existing hotels within the group. Ghitis says that Nayara Bocas Bali is an excellent example of what the Nayara brand stands for. “Extra-personalized service, extraordinary experiences, and above and beyond an unwavering commitment towards sustainability and our communities.

Rooms

Over-water villas allow guests to enjoy the Caribbean scenery from their rooms. Some villas have glass floor panels that will enable underwater marine viewing, while others have steps leading into the ocean. All were inspired by Bali’s barefoot romance. The property will unveil its first treehouse in fall 2022. Plans are to add more trees in 2022 and 2023.

Aerial beach

Bocas Bali revealed the world’s first ever over-water beach. It was 90 feet in length and 20 feet wide and hovered on stilts. Kupu-Kupu Beach offers a relaxing spot for those who want to relax and enjoy the tropical breeze. It features white sand and lush palms. The platform is connected to the Caribbean Sea by a series of steps that descend into the sea. This allows for seamless transitions between deep-water snorkeling and sunbathing.

Activities

Its idyllic island setting makes it an ideal place for water sports, including snorkeling and paddle-boarding as well as kayaking through mangroves and dolphin watching in the bay. (Dolphin Bay is appropriately named as pods of dolphins that can often be seen swimming around the bay). You can also take a seaplane off the property to Isla Ecudo De Veraguas. This remote island is home to three-toed pygmy sloths that love to swim in the waters around the island. You can also go fishing, visit indigenous chocolate farms and explore Monkey Island, a sanctuary for monkeys.

Restaurants

Two restaurants offer international cuisine with a Caribbean twist. They use the best seafood from the Caribbean Sea. You can order Caribbean Curry, ceviche of today from the morning’s catch, and toasted coconut bread (Johnny Cakes). The Balinese-inspired Elephant House restaurant is perched on stilts above the Caribbean Sea. The poolside Coral Cafe offers casual breakfast, lunch, and snacks in a relaxed, alfresco setting. Both bars offer handcrafted cocktails that complement the island breeze. The Tipsy Bar on Kupu-Kupu Beach is the ideal place to enjoy a tropical cocktail while dipping your toes in the sand.

Sustainability

Bocas Bali utilizes solar energy, rainwater purification, and a wastewater treatment system that is eco-friendly for mangrove islands. Five environmental studies were done to ensure that the property did not pose a risk to the habitat’s mangroves or clear waters. The overwater structures were designed to minimize interference with coral reefs.

How to Get There

It takes approximately an hour to drive from Panama City’s Tocumen Airport to Albrook Airport. After that, it is about an hour to Bocas Airport. A Bocas Bali representative will meet arrivals at Bocas Bali and take them to the property via boat. Roundtrip transfers to Bocas airport are included in this rate. Bocas Bali will launch VIP daily air service from Panama City’s Tocumen Airport to Bocas del Toro Airport on a nine-seat King Air B200. The flight takes 45 minutes and departs Panama City at 4:30 every day. This flight costs $500 per person. Once in Panama, the resort can help coordinate travel.

Double occupancy rates start at $900 per Night on an all-inclusive basis. bocasbali.com nayararesorts.com
