The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance has announced that the ANSI/APSP/ICC-11 American National Standard 2019 for Water Quality in public pools and spas will be reviewed and revised. They are also inviting subject matter experts (SMEs) to join the PHTA-11 Standard Writing Committee.
The SWC, once formed, will meet quarterly as part of the process for continuous maintenance to review and discuss revisions to standards. These revisions will be presented to PHTA’s American National Standards Institute consensus voting body (ANSI). SMEs that wish to be on the SWC should be able and willing to participate actively in the language drafting and understand the current standard. Members serve for a term of three years, which can be extended.
All interested parties, such as pool builders, manufacturers and testing laboratories, certifying agencies, pool designers, officials of public health, building codes, local municipalities, operators and academics in the pool and spa industry, as well service companies and academics are invited to apply for a seat on the PHTA-11 SWC. The criteria for appointment are designed to ensure a balanced SWC, without a dominant interest group, individual or organization. Priority will go to applicants who have experience in using, applying and enforcing ANSI/APSP/ICC-11 2019.
Interested parties, who are not SMEs or active users, can attend the meetings as observers.
The PHTA-11 SWC is revising the standard in order to provide minimum guidelines on the water quality parameters for public pools and spas. Commercial or public pools are defined as any swimming pool or spa that is not a residence and is operated either by the owner, lessee or operator.
The completed application form should be sent to PHTA no later than November 20. Visit the Participate In The Process or phta.org/standards pages for more information. You can also email PHTA’s Program Director of Standards and Technical Services Genevieve Lynn via [email protected].
