Man Charged with Reckless Driving for Converting Truck into Pool

The owner of a pickup truck in Sharon, Israel, is scheduled to appear in court for converting the back of the vehicle into a pool. He drove while four children played and splashed in the water.

According to news reports, the police stopped the owner of the vehicle near Kadima at the weekend. The driver received a citation for reckless driving and will be charged with it.

The impromptu swimming pool was the response of the driver to the sizzling heatwave which hit Israel. It was the first major one of the year and brought temperatures as high as 37degC (98.5degF) in the Sharon area.

The owner of the car had filled the trunk with water and lined it with plastic sheets.

The owner secured the pool by using an orange pressure band to secure the edges of plastic sheeting on the outer side.

A video released by police shows the truck driving along a dirt road near agricultural areas.

Tzomet KFS reports indicate that the driver took the car on Route 553 to the Sharon area, while the children splashed around in a makeshift pool.

People have participated in a viral video trend that has seen drivers turn their trucks into pools. The videos quickly gained popularity on social media. According to sources, the trend could have influenced the drivers. It is important to note that safety experts warn against this practice because it carries several dangers and risks.

This viral trend could get you into trouble with the police and damage your car.

Water is much denser than other materials used in truck beds, and therefore heavier per square foot. The total weight of a truck bed filled with people and water can often exceed the maximum payload limit. The structural integrity of the vehicle and its safety can be compromised.

The video below shows a real-life example of a driver’s tailgate being stretched by the weight of flooded pool, requiring significant repairs.
