Advancements in ink, printing, and vinyl manufacturing are fuelling innovation in pool liner designs. One Canadian manufacturer recently introduced a new ink for its vinyl pool liners, capable of “colour shifting.” This feature enables the vinyl pool liner to change colours based on light and angles in a pool. The colour-shifting inks have been incorporated into a new pool liner design that has entered the market and into several pools, including one kidney-shaped pool in Kitchener, Ont. The homeowners, who chose this vinyl pool liner design, are thrilled with their decision.

“The way this colour-shifting liner looks in the sun is quite impressive, the way it sparkles and flows, and shifts in the light,” says Henry Schnurbach, owner of Cover Tech Industries in Toronto, the company that fabricated the liner for this project.

Colour-shifting bliss

The new pool liner design incorporates a new ink which induces a colour-shifting effect visible at the upper portion of the pool liner, specifically at the border just beneath the deck.

“Unlike traditional borders that are very symmetrical square or tile-like borders, the border on this pool liner has a wave-like design that accentuates the shifting colours,” says Dan Vaduva, the client who selected this pattern for his pool renovation. “It’s like a wave of water and movement. It’s truly unique and every person that steps into our backyard immediately notices the pool interior. It’s very unexpected and a real conversation piece whenever we have guests in our backyard.”

“This liner is also a great pattern to help pool builders ‘stand out’ from their competitors—even if they don’t sell a large quantity of this pool liner pattern,” says Schnurbach. “Just being able to showcase something so different will help pool liner installers stand out from other pool builders and installers who don’t have a unique design in their offering.”

Colour shifts emerge above the waterline, accentuated in sunlight or dusk, offering a dynamic view of the transformation along the border from any angle.

The pattern, coupled with a colour-changing sparkle, drew the homeowner’s interest, along with that of various pool liner fabricators and installers this past season.

“As soon as I saw the design, I knew this liner pattern would work with the vision we had for our backyard renovation and was thrilled that my family agreed with me,” says Vaduva.
