In Memoriam: Richard Howey

Richard Howey, 64, died Tuesday, 20 December. As a Product Development Manager at Sunrise Spas, Richard Howey was a friend, colleague, valued team member, and a valued member the community outreach organization.

Richard was born in Tillsonburg (Ontario) and spent his childhood in Alymer, Ontario. In the late 1990s, he moved to Smithville.

Richard started his career in spa business by launching his own company with a partner and then later, he worked for MAAX Spa in Brantford. He met some current Sunrise employees while working at MAAX. Soon he joined Sunrise Spas’ team and devoted his career to researching, prototyping and developing features for whirlpool pools.

Richard’s cooperation with spa equipment manufacturers and suppliers quickly led to him being well-known and respected within the industry, particularly with Sunrise’s supplier Waterway Plastics. Sunrise Spas will miss Richard’s dedication, expertise, and passion for the work.

Richard was the President Elect of the Kiwanis Club of West Lincoln Service Club and was also very active as a Smithville United Church member. He was also proud to be the pet owner of Emma and Cindy, Miss Minn as well as Frank, Daisy, Lucas, and Frank the friend. Richard loved NASCAR racing and was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

Husband, best friend, and love of Richard’s entire life to Cathy Howey (nee). Coates). Richard is survived his mother Phyllis, and his father Gerald Howey. His siblings, Nancy Miedema (Rick), and Kevin Howey(Rhonda) will miss him. Many extended family members and friends will remember him.

Smithville United Church hosted a visitation on Tuesday, 27 December. Following the visitation, a funeral service was held at Smithville United Church.
