Electrocution in Jupiter, FL Fountain – 1 Death and 4 Injuries

The Jupiter Police Department announced on Monday that a tragic incident of electrocution occurred at Harbourside Place, Sunday. Three children and two adults received medical treatment at local hospitals after the incident. One person died and four others were injured by an electric shock in the fountain area.

Three victims were still recovering at St. Mary’s Medical Center as of Monday afternoon. One adult victim was discharged from Jupiter Medical Center. The other adult, however, did not survive. He was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.

Investigators with the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue report that the incident took place around 3:30 pm on a Sunday afternoon at Harbourside Place. The incident began when the juvenile entered the water fountain. They immediately began to feel distressed, raising initial concerns about a possible drowning.

The brave bystanders jumped into action, but were surprised when they received an unexpected electrical shock while in the water.

The investigation continues to identify the source of potential electrical hazards. Eight people were examined for injuries in response to the incident.

Initial reports stated that the child had been injured on the splash pad. Harbourside Place released a statement to clarify the exact location of the incident.

It happened at the fountains with signs that said no climbing. “There were also clearly marked signs saying no swimming, and that’s when this happened.”


Harbourside Place Spokesperson Issues a Statement

Captain Tom Reyes, of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, praised the quick response of the Jupiter Police Department as well as civilians who had already provided essential assistance when they arrived.

The investigation into Sunday’s tragic event is still ongoing.
