9 Ideas to Create a Backyard Patio Oasis

9 Ideas to Create a Backyard Patio Oasis

You enjoy spending time outdoors and would like to extend that enjoyment beyond the poolside to your patio. You don’t need to spend a lot to create a tranquil oasis around your patio. You can make some of these ideas with just a few plants or hanging baskets.

Expanding your outdoor living space opens up many entertainment and relaxation opportunities for you and your family. It also helps you get the most out of it. You might want to try one or more of these nine ideas for creating your backyard oasis.

1. Multi-level thinking is possible

Take a look at your backyard patio and the surrounding area, including the pathways leading to the pool. Then, design the space as a whole. This is a simple and easy way to create functional and beautiful spaces on multiple levels. You can add seating, plants, shade, and visual interest both vertically and horizontally.

2. You can add seating options

Seating is an important area to think about. You and your family will need a place to relax in the new patio oasis. Choose pieces that can be used outdoors, but also indoors. Don’t buy five-piece patio sets. You can be more creative with the individual pieces of furniture that are all in one color or style, and create a unique look.

3. Add some shade

While enjoying the sunshine is an important part of outdoor living, shade is essential when it gets too hot and bright. You can add decorative touches to your outdoor space by adding a pergola, awning, or oversized umbrella, as well as a wooden frame that holds outdoor curtains.

4. Take a look at privacy

You can add additional features to your patio to protect it from any other elements, even if your privacy fence is in place. The pool can be enjoyed by the children while the adults enjoy quiet conversation and the company of grown-ups. This allows you to clearly define the different functions of your yard and can maximize your enjoyment.

5. Make a lighting scheme

Lighting is an important aspect of your outdoor space. You will not be just enjoying the sun on the patio. Choose a mix of soft illumination sources and avoid single bright lights. Twinkle lights, for example, can be strung around the edges of pergolas, canopies, or railings. You can use smaller lanterns to repel mosquitoes with citronella oil.

Fiber optics, LED, and automation can make a big splash in color and design, or create a theme. To enhance outdoor spaces with well-planned illumination, fire bowls and other fire features such as fireplaces or pits can be used.

Be sure to think vertically as much as horizontally when adding lighting to areas that will be most important.

6. Go Green

For a stunning outdoor oasis, add lush green accents. You should choose plants that can grow outdoors in your climate, and are easy to maintain. This is another area where you can add features to multiple levels. Hang baskets of trailing or ferns and ivy from high. To frame walkways or paving stones, add ground cover plants like lantana. Mix it all up with planters and flower boxes of different sizes.

7. Make an outdoor shower

A backyard with a hot tub or pool can have an outdoor shower. However, it can also be a wonderful addition to the property. This luxury addition will cost a little more, so plan carefully. Also, make sure to position the shower near your home to reduce plumbing costs.

8. A Riot of Color

You can add color to your patio with vases, plants, and pillows in many shades. You can change the look of neutral-toned seating by using a mixture of solids and printed colors.

9. Make an outdoor kitchen

The outdoor grill is not the only option. You can transform the grill by adding a fully-equipped kitchen. A simple sink can be used for washing up. To make food preparation easy, you can add an outdoor island with storage below and prep space on the top. The chef will feel like they are still part of the celebration!
