As talks of new 25 per cent tariffs are set to take effect on Canadian and Mexican imports alongside 10 per cent tariffs on Chinese goods, pool owners are concerned about potential impacts on chlorine prices.
While 72 per cent of America’s chlorine is domestically produced, key realities suggest consumers should prepare for market shifts.
Per a report by EZ Pool & Spa Supply, the effects of the tariffs can ripple through the pool market as many domestic manufacturers rely on imported raw materials. Midwestern/northeastern states import 40 per cent of their polyethylene (used in chlorine packaging) from Canada, and rail companies have already increased chlorine shipping rates by 15 per cent this year.
In such a situation, proactive pool management is key to maintaining the pool’s pristine condition and budget.
