Hope Valley Day Camp is located in the Kawartha area of Ontario. It was founded by Marion and Doug Robinson to offer a camp experience for children who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
The camp is run by between 50 and 75 volunteers who are deeply concerned about the welfare of the local youth. Since its inception, the camp has been funded entirely by donations.
An outdoor pool is available at the camp. It measures 10 x 24m (36.8 x 80ft), has a shallow end of 1.4 m (4.5 feet) and a deep end of 2.5 m (8.2 feet). It holds approximately 450 L (119,000 gal). The pool was lined with a 28 mil vinyl liner that is intended for residential pools. The pool’s bathers were heavy throughout the summer and the liner needed to be changed regularly. They were actually about to install their fourth pool lining when they called the author.
The company recommended that the camp purchase a 60 mil weld-in place membrane liner. This thicker membrane is perfect for heavy commercial use and has a slip-resistant option for areas such as stairs or shallow areas to prevent falls.
