The City of Toronto announced that the Donald D. Summerville Olympic Pools would remain closed until the end of the 2023 swimming seasons due to the complex repairs required for the aging infrastructure of these pools. This has extended the construction window.

The Donald D. Summerville Olympic Pools is located at 1867 Lake Shore Boulevard. E. This facility has been undergoing the necessary repairs since spring weather allowed. The city had planned to reopen the 50 m (164 ft), and 25 m (82 ft), pools this year. However, due to the extensive repairs required, it was not possible.

Toronto has 59 outdoor swimming pools. The City of Toronto is busy preparing the summer of 2023, which started as early as June 17, for some pools. Donald D. Summerville Olympic Pools, out of the 59 outdoor swimming pools, will remain closed this summer and two others will have their openings temporarily delayed.

Toronto Public Health advised the city to close the facility for the summer. The 25-m pool (82-ft), which has been completely refurbished, is still closed. The city decided to close the entire facility for the summer season due to the dangers created on site by the ongoing repairs on the 50-m pool (164-ft).

The complex has undergone a $3.5 million renovation to prolong the life of the popular facility by another 20 years. This includes new pool liners for all three tanks, and a complete deck replacement.

The Donald D. Summerville Olympic Pools did not have any registered swimming programs for the season 2023. All programs permitted at this location were relocated.

Residents can enjoy leisure and drop-in swimming at the Greenwood Park Outdoor Pool, Monarch Park Outdoor Pool and Kiwanis Outdoor Pool. All are located within 3.5km (2.17 miles) of the Donald D. Summerville Olympic Pools. Kiwanis outdoor pool will remain open an extra week (until September 10), offering part-time hours for residents to make the most of summer.

Two of the two pools that are facing delays will open in accordance with the following schedule.

Leaside Park Outdoor Pool (5 Leaside Park Dr.), will open its doors for the summer on Saturday, July 15th.

Pine Point Park Outdoor Pool (15 Grierson Rd.) The pool is expected to open on July 3rd.
