CK Spas began with an unexpected turn: a switch from residential moving to hot tubs. Charles Koncewicz was inspired to change careers after observing how quickly spa movers finished their jobs while he spent hours moving household items. This realization led to a change in focus for the business. CK Spas began in the transport business but quickly shifted its focus to the hot tub moving industry.

Clients often offered to dispose of their old spas when they received new or refurbished spas from the stores. Koncewicz decided to refurbish and resell these units instead of throwing them away. He was so enthusiastic about this project that he soon filled both his garage and driveways with spas. CK Spas had to make several strategic moves to accommodate the growing business. First, they moved to a smaller warehouse, then a bigger one, and finally, opened a dedicated shop. The CK Spas boutique opened in May 2017, when Dana Hyde was ready to go back to work as a mom after being a stay at home.

Pool & Spa Marketing ( PSM ): What sets your company apart from others in the industry and what makes it unique?

CK Spas uses a spa buggy, which is a specially-designed vehicle that works in conjunction with a trailer and truck to deliver spas.

Dana Hyde ( DH: I think what makes us different is the way we have grown. We began in the transport business, then grew into selling refurbished hot tubs and new spas. Our commitment to providing the best possible service for our customers is another thing that makes us stand out. It involves publishing articles, creating informative videos and providing free training in-store. Our goal is to provide our customers with all the help they need.

PSM Could you please share with us some information about the size of your shop, including its total square footage and retail space as well as its number of employees?

DH We are located in Saint-Eustache (Quebec) and we occupy a industrial condo unit measuring approximately 214 m 2 (2.300 sf). This location has been ours since 2017. We purchased it this year. We also have two additional condos in our building, one for storage of our used spas, and the second as a workshop/parts storage area. Each condo measures 186 m 2 (2,00 sf).

Our small family-run business has four full-time workers and two part-time workers for delivery and transportation. Matty also assists in the shop by stocking shelves, and charming customers.
