The Annual Pumpkin Drop in Oregon Makes a Splash

Residents of Seaside Oregon recently held their annual October event, which featured a spectacular pumpkin dropping into an inflatable swimming pool. Seaside Fire and Rescue called the resulting spectacle “the biggest splash ever.”

The featured pumpkin this year weighed in at 1,997 pounds. But it’s had an interesting journey. It developed a large hole during its growth that eventually led to it rotting, and it was no longer eligible for the festival’s Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off.

A crane lifted a giant pumpkin in the air and sent a crowd of excited people running for safety. The cascade of water that followed was an incredible experience, combining humor and thrills.

Residents could purchase rubber ducks or rubber beavers at $5 each, before the event. These adorable bathtime friends represented two prestigious Oregon universities: the University of Oregon, and Oregon State University. The stakes were very high as the university with the most successful mascots would win a prize.

The competition brought a healthy rivalry to the festivities. The rubber mascots were sent soaring through the air and the attendees awaited the results with great anticipation. Which team will win, the Ducks of the Beavers? The organizers chose to keep the excitement alive by keeping the community buzzing.

Jim Sherwood is responsible for this memorable tradition. He is the grower who took the risk and grew the gourd weighing one ton. Jim Sherwood’s dedication and hard work has become a vital part of the event. It allows Seaside to celebrate Halloween with a unique and memorable style.

The pumpkin drop is a bit unpredictable, which adds to its charm. In previous years, the pool has deflated under the weight of a giant pumpkin. It’s a funny twist that keeps the attendees guessing. These unexpected moments are what make the event so exciting.

Seaside, Oregon continues to show its ability to celebrate Halloween in an unforgettable and big way. It has become an annual tradition that combines community spirit, friendly rivalry, and the unexpected to create a Halloween celebration unlike any other. Seaside residents can start the Halloween season in style.
