Every year, your phone, car and home become smarter. In the average American household there are twenty connected smart devices. The European average is seventeen connected smart devices per house. On average, people have two and a quarter smart devices with them for most of their day.

These devices are designed to either provide a certain level of security or automate a particular function in your home or workplace, or make life a bit more comfortable. Smart technology, with varying degrees of success, has found its way to outdoor spaces. From our watches and smart camping equipment, to portable solar panel products, it’s all been there.

We have neglected our yards, which are an extension of our homes. Smart lighting and other products with smart functionality are available, but they tend to be used for aesthetic purposes. Smart-yard technology is still in its infancy. Emerging products are expensive, as with any new technology. Aiper has created an ecosystem of smart-yard products to simplify your life, starting with your swimming pool.

Since its launch in 2017, the company has improved and perfected its cordless robotic cleaners. Aiper’s Seagull Series is a leader in the industry. Two things stand out immediately when compared to other mainstays. The Seagull Plus, Pro, and SE are all sleek, attractive hydrodynamic devices that have a sports-car feel. Second, the price. SE, Plus and Pro are all designed to meet your cleaning needs at the entry level, mid-range and professional levels. They’re also hundreds of dollars less expensive than many competitors. The Aiper Seagull Pro, which won the CES Innovation Award earlier this year, is proof that they don’t sacrifice quality.

At the time this article was written, Aiper’s Seagull Pro was its most advanced cordless robot pool cleaner. The spec sheet of this product is one thing that stands out. It can clean for up to three-hours on a 90 minute charge. This is an important selling point to me, as I am not a fan of plugging devices in until they are needed. It will save me time and energy since I don’t have to plan my entire day around charging the device. We all know that nobody enjoys waiting to clean.

The Seagull Pro boasts a quad motor design, making it the first cordless robotic cleaner ever to use this technology. The device can perform at 70w and 200w power. Two motors are dedicated to cleaning your pool and two others filter it. It’s difficult to understand the Aiper Seagull Pro in context without experiencing it for yourself. YouTube has a number of videos that show the Aiper Seagull Pro at work.

The Aiper Seagull Pro is the cordless cleaner you need. The Seagull Pro is a great option for a thorough cleaning. It cleans the pool floor, walls, and waterline. This includes pools with slopes up to 30 degrees and those that are 3200 square feet. Aiper boasts of its WavePath (tm) navigation technology, which is a proprietary Aiper product. This technology reportedly allows for a 30% increase in cleaning coverage compared to other robotic pool cleaners.

The big question now is: Is the Aiper Seagull Pro a good investment, and can the smart-yard be a reality in the near future? Retailing at $899.99, the Seagull Pro is hundreds of dollars cheaper than most of the competition, and Aiper holds frequent sales to snag one at a discount, similar to Amazon, Aiper has its very own Aiper day sales which saves up to $200 off at aiper.com/aiper-store. I’m interested in any product, even at retail price, that will make pool maintenance easier for me. Even if I don’t use my pool, I still spend between three and five hours each week cleaning it. We can average this and say that four hours per week is 224 total hours. This means that the product will cost $4 for each use in just one year (I’m not counting electricity, since it amounts to $5 per year). Is it possible to get my time back for $4 per week and $1 an hour? Absolutely. I can get to the gym, have lunch and still have time left over in just four hours. I can also assemble something at Ikea while my swimming pool is being cleaned. I can even polish my wife’s mother tongue that I am secretly learning. It’s an excellent investment.

Time will tell if the smart-yard is a success. Recently, I researched robotic lawnmowers to determine their safety and efficacy. However, the cost of the higher-end models still exceeds thousands. Aiper’s ability to replicate their pool product success in terms of price and quality, and then apply it to lawn care will change the entire ecosystem of smart yard devices. Beyond that, I am encouraged to wait and see – anything that eliminates a chore off my to-do-list as the Roomba has done for millions of people will make me look closer. Yard maintenance is something we should do because it’s a luxury. But with so much to do, this can be forgotten. I’m excited to have my chores automated, and can’t await the next Aiper innovation. But for now, the company is focusing on the pool, and making pool owners around the world fans.
