The swimming pool industry has lost one of its most respected figures. Andy Pansini Jr., former CEO of Jandy Industries and a second-generation industry leader, passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 76. His life’s work not only helped shape the pool and spa industry but left an enduring mark on American backyard culture and innovation.
Andy Jr. was born in San Francisco and raised in Marin County, California. He spent the last 50 years living in Novato, where he built his life with his wife Pam—his partner of 50 years. Together, they raised two children and were blessed with five grandchildren. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of San Francisco, but his education in innovation and leadership began much earlier—within the walls of a family business that helped redefine pool maintenance.
The Pansini family legacy is rooted in invention. Andy Jr.’s grandfather, Andrew Pansini Sr., founded the world’s first parking company in 1917, the Savoy Corporation. But it was his father, Andrew L. Pansini, who became a household name in the pool world when he invented the first automatic swimming pool cleaner in 1957 and launched Jandy Industries—a brand name derived from “Jan” and “Andy.” It was a breakthrough that transformed pool ownership and care, sparking a new era in swimming pool technology.
Andy Jr. started working for the family business at a young age, eventually rising to lead Jandy Industries and helping it grow into one of the most recognized names in pool equipment and automation. During his tenure, he worked alongside industry icon Vance Gillette, who served as President. Together, they led the company through a transformative period, introducing technologies that remain industry standards today.
As news of Andy Pansini Jr.’s passing spread throughout the pool and spa industry, heartfelt tributes began pouring in from those who knew him best. Chuck Baumann of CreativEnvironments shared a personal reflection that speaks to the legacy of both Andy Jr. and his father:
“I’ll always remember Andy as such a pleasant and honorable man. His father was one of the true pioneers in our industry—an innovator who helped transform swimming pool ownership from a chore into something enjoyable and low-maintenance for the entire family. The Pansini family has contributed so much to the swimming pool and spa industry over the years. Both Andy Sr. and Andy Jr. left an indelible mark that will never be forgotten. Although Andy Jr. has left us far too soon, generations to come will continue to feel the impact of the Pansini legacy. Godspeed, my friend.”
Beyond his business career, Andy Pansini Jr. was deeply committed to his community and philanthropy. He served as Chairman and Board Member of Sutter Health—a $10 billion healthcare system—and held a leadership role with Sutter Care at Home. For over 20 years, he gave back locally as a Little League coach, board member, and president in Novato, impacting the lives of countless young athletes and families.
Andy was also a prolific author. His writings include Fathers of Invention (2017) and Family of Invention (2020), which chronicle the remarkable journey of three generations of Pansinis and their impact on American industry.
Andy’s passing comes not long after the loss of his longtime business partner and friend, Vance Gillette, underscoring the closing of a foundational chapter in pool industry history. Yet, his influence will continue to ripple outward—from the millions of pools cleaned with Jandy equipment to the industry professionals he inspired, and the lives he touched through his volunteerism and mentorship.
To those who knew him, Andy Jr. was more than a businessman—he was a leader, storyteller, family man, and innovator. His contributions advanced not just pool care but the spirit of American ingenuity. His life was one of service, invention, and legacy.
The pool industry and the Novato community alike have lost a giant. But the story of Andy Pansini Jr.—like the company he helped build—will endure.
