In a shocking case out of Arizona, a woman has admitted to attempting to poison her Air Force husband by lacing his coffee with bleach. Despite the gravity of the offense, Melody Felicano Johnson, 40, is reportedly evading jail time, instead she’ll receive probation coupled with mandatory mental health treatment.
Husband Tested Coffee With Pool Test Strips
Johnson’s actions came to light when her husband, Roby Johnson, began to notice a peculiar taste in his coffee while stationed in Germany back in March 2023. Suspecting foul play, he took matters into his own hands, purchasing pool testing strips to analyze his morning brew. What he discovered was alarming: high levels of chlorine, indicating the presence of bleach.
The victim, Roby Johnson, detailed his suspicions, revealing that his wife was aware of his nightly routine of preparing the coffee pot in advance for the morning brew. This knowledge, coupled with his taste tests and the damning evidence from the pool testing strips, led him to believe that his wife was attempting to end his life.
Roby Johnson’s cautious approach to the situation speaks volumes about the complexity of his predicament. Fearful of reporting his findings while abroad in Europe, he waited until the family returned to Tucson, Arizona, before taking action. Setting up surveillance cameras in their temporary housing near Davis Monthan Air Force Base, he captured chilling footage of his wife in the act.
Despite his efforts, the initial report to the Tucson Police Department did not yield immediate action due to inconclusive evidence. Undeterred, Roby Johnson persisted, providing additional footage on July 18, which unequivocally showed Melody pouring bleach into the coffee machine.
While Melody Felicano Johnson ultimately admitted to her actions, her plea deal spared her from more severe charges. Instead, she faces a probation sentence with mandatory mental health treatment, along with strict restrictions on future contact with her husband. The motive behind Melody Felicano Johnson’s alleged attempt to kill her husband, Roby Johnson, may have been driven by a desire to obtain death benefits.
