(Alexandria) –The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance and the International Code Council are pleased to announce that the American National Standards Institute has approved and published ANSI/PHTA/ICC-2, 2023 American National Standard on Public Pool and Spa Operations and Maintenance.
The new standard for public aquatic venues provides public health officials, code officials, and industry professionals with a set of guidelines that can be easily adopted by public health officials, industry experts, and code officials.
PHTA-2 focuses primarily on the critical areas, such as inspections, operating licenses, water quality, hygienic facilities, indoor/outdoor environments, and other requirements. It is based upon engineering principles, scientific tenets and industry standards of caring.
Sabeena HIckman, CAE is the President and CEO of PHTA. She said, “The ANSI’s approval and publication of PHTA-2 represents a major win for our industry.” This standard is the product of hundreds of volunteer hours of expert work, and it is a significant step towards healthy and safe aquatics facilities.
Dominic Sims CBO, CEO, ICC, says: “This new standard is important in keeping public pools and spas as safe as possible for everyone.” Both our organizations recognize the importance of updating and creating new codes for swimming pools and hot tubs. We will continue to work with PHTA in order to provide resources to the building safety community.
It was designed by a group of experts with a balance of knowledge and experience, using an open, rigorous development process that is accredited by ANSI. It is a logical complement to other PHTA Standards and the International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (r) (ISPSC).
