(Alexandria) —The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance, the trade association that represents the swimming pool and hot tub industry, is accepting nominations now for the 2023 Greg Garrett scholarship award and the Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant. Spa
Greg Garrett Scholarship Award
The PHTA Recreational Water & Air Quality Committee created this prestigious award in memory of Greg Garrett. Greg was a former PHTA Member. The award offers a $5,000 scholarship for two PHTA members from the service or builder sectors. This money can be used to pay for PHTA certification or education fees. PHTA announces that Periodic Products, Inc. will sponsor one of two scholarships this year.
The Greg Garrett Scholarship Award allows me and Greg’s other industry peers to continue sharing that passion. It means a lot to me, and to Greg’s industry peers, to be able to share that passion with the Greg Garrett Scholarship Award.
For consideration for the Greg Garrett Scholarship Award you must submit an application form along with two recommendations. PHTA members may nominate themselves or a colleague. The deadline for nominations is Friday, 15 September.

Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant
This $5,000 grant is given in memory of Dr. Robert Neil Lowry. He was a longtime member of PHTA, the Recreational Water & Air Quality Committee, and a former president of the PHTA. It honors a public official or department that has made outstanding contributions in advancing the public’s safety and health in recreational pools, spas and waterparks.
Public health officials, as well as their organizations, play an important role in making sure that our pools, waterparks and other aquatic venues, are safe for everyone,” said Jody O’Grady. She is the Director of Customer Support at Taylor Water Technologies LLC, and Chair of RWAQC. The Lowry Grant allows our industry to recognize, honor and support these individuals’ dedication and commitment. Dr. Lowry, who passed away more than 10 years ago, would be happy to know that his grant is still making a positive difference in the community of recreational water safety.
The Lowry Grant is open to public health officials or departments who can describe their program and the benefits it brings, including the health and safety of the public, the impact on the results expected, and the use of grant funds. Nominations are due by Friday, September 8th.
