They invite participants across the spectrum to compete for this coveted title. The event will feature a fascinating collision of design philosophy as technology-driven methods compete against tried-and true methods that have shaped generations of pool design.
Million Dollar Pool Challenge Revealed
This exhilarating competition is centered on the question whether the millennial generation can beat out the proven and established techniques of the baby boomers. This competition is set up by the Million Dollar Pool Design Challenge, which invites individuals, students and teams to submit their innovative pool designs for review by an industry panel.
Million Dollar Swimming Pool Challenge: Inspiration and Backstory
The scenario of the challenge revolves around a young couple who are building their forever home along the scenic intracoastal waterways in Miami Beach. They are recent empty nesters and want a space which can accommodate large gatherings, while still maintaining a warm atmosphere for family moments. Design must be a reflection of their love for Latin art and decor. It should also evoke warmth and give a nod towards modern aesthetics. Designers are inspired by their favorite pastimes such as visits to local country clubs and leisurely boat trips to dining and shopping destinations.
Guidelines for Submission
Participants can submit their own interpretation of a dream swimming pool. This competition is open to all, from individuals, to students, companies and teams.
You must submit a 2D plan that has been carefully scaled. This challenge is all about the presentation of the 2D plans and their intricate details. It requires your creativity.
Eight supplementary graphics can be used to support your plan, and they must all be rendered in your chosen media. These graphics are crucial in improving your presentation and giving you additional insight into your vision.
Include a paragraph with your design that explains your design process and the details of your solution.
Criteria for Judging
The judging panel of the competition, which is composed of six to eight experts in the industry, uses a points-based system to evaluate entries according to four main criteria.
1. Aesthetic quality
- Evaluation of the 2D Plan’s visual appeal. Does it clearly and effectively present all elements in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while still maintaining high standards?
- Assess the supporting components, such as the eight graphics, videos and presentation materials. Are these materials in line with the high-end expectations of a client who is discerning? Are they able to convey details beyond the 2D drawing’s scope?
2. Differentiation
- Take into account the designer’s skillful use of materials. Does the designer’s use of materials harmonize with the essence of the home and meet the needs and desires for the homeowners?
- Evaluate the integration of Latin flair and modern design elements. Are these elements infused with a sense or vitality and novelty?
- Look at the uniqueness of the project areas. This includes the Front Entry Yard, the Back Yard, the Side Yard and the transition from the Boat Dock.
- Assess the designer’s vision for utilizing Riverflow Current System or Lazy River.
-
The designer should incorporate the following features:
- Art Displays
- Sunken Firepit
- Acrylic Glass
- Splash Pad
- Fire & Water
- Outdoor Kitchen
- Putting Green
- Glass Tile Mural
- Front Drive with Fountain
3. Functionality
- Examine the seamless integration between the pool and the home architecture. Is the design conducive to a harmonious integration between these elements?
- Examine the fluidity of outdoor spaces and their cohesiveness, scalability, and reusability.
- Consider how the design accommodates the client’s desire to host 25-30 guests. Is the project able to meet this requirement?
- Look for the efficient and effective implementation of the primary customer desires and needs in the project.
- Assess the project’s ability to preserve captivating views from the comfort of your home.
4. Practical Feasibility
- Consider the design’s compliance with national and local construction and safety codes to the best of your ability.
- Consider whether an engineer would approve the design, given the structural and execution integrity.
- Assess the potential for the presentation to attract a clientele who is willing to invest a significant amount of money in the backyard.
Enhancement Considerations
Optional elements can be added to enhance the quality of your submission:
- Flythrough videos are available in.mp4 and.mov formats. They offer a visual journey of your design.
- A 3D model or other unique presentation tool that enhances the impact of your idea.
