National trials for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer have moved to Toronto due to smoke and fire outside Montreal’s Olympic Stadium last month, which caused water damage to the pool.

According to a report by CTV news, the Olympic pool at Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Quebec) will remain closed for the next four to six months. While the fire on March 21 did not cause any injuries, during the effort to extinguish it, smoke infiltration and water from firefighters caused significant damage to the Olympic Stadium, leading to closure of the pool.

The CTV report further states that since the competition venue must feature a 50 m (164 ft) pool and be large enough to host media personnels, alongside spectators, Swimming Canada chose the Pan Am Sports Centre in Toronto to host the trials. Previously, the venue was built for the Pan American Parapan American Games in 2015 and has hosted multiple trials since.
