This summer, the YMCA of Greater Moncton will be in charge of managing Moncton’s Centennial and East End pools, as requested by the city.
The senior director of aquatics, Joey Doucet, confirmed they agreed to a one-year arrangement and see it as a positive opportunity for both the YMCA and the city. The pools will function similar to previous years, offering early morning lap swims and public swims, with the same hours, pricing, and entrance fees. Earlier, they were under the management of two local swim clubs, the Codiac Vikings Aquatic Club and Club Natation Bleu et Or.
The YMCA is refrained from opening swim lessons this year, given it is the first year they will be managing the pools, but they do plan on offering swimming lessons in the future.
Although swimming lessons were provided last year, the YMCA is focusing on ensuring a successful first year managing the pools.
Doucet states providing safe aquatic experiences is their priority and they plan on continuing to run the pools in future years. The pools will open on June 24th, for ten weeks, and close on the Labour Day weekend.
Currently, the YMCA is actively seeking over 40 staff members, including lifeguards and cashiers, and accepting resumes via email or at their locations in Vaughn Harvey or in the North end.
Payments at the pools will not be accepted in cash; a debit or credit card or a season pass will be necessary.
