The hot tubs were available for purchase through authorized Sundance Spas and Jacuzzi Hot Tubs dealers throughout the country from July 2021 to Dec 2022.
Why is there a recall of Jacuzzi and Sundance Spas
After receiving 185 reports of inaccurate temperature readings, the recall was initiated. One Jacuzzi J-355 owner stated that the temperature gauge on their hot tub read 101 degrees Fahrenheit. However, once they entered, it was sweltering hot. According to the kitchen thermometer, the water was actually 126 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sundance Spa 780 series owners claimed that the water was unbearably hot, despite being set at 98 degrees Fahrenheit. They conducted tests and found that the water was at 107 degrees Fahrenheit.
The CPSC has warned people for years about the dangers of hot tub water being too hot. In a 1979 news release, the commission stated that hot tub water temperatures should not exceed 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sundance Spas, Inc., also known under Jacuzzi Hot Tubs, is currently fixing the hot tubs. To prevent injury and burns, owners should use an external thermometer to check the temperature of the hot tub before using it.
