Express Employment Professionals conducted a 2020 survey of Canadian hiring decision-makers and found that nearly seven out 10 agreed that it is an effective way to screen candidates by looking at their social media profiles. Furthermore, 68% of employers agree that checking potential candidates’ social media profiles is a good way to screen them.
“For instance, there were three applicants for a job this summer and one was an avid hiker. Two of our team members share the same passion and it allowed us to grow closer and faster. Career Builder also found that 54% of employers have ruled out candidates due to information they see on social media. 2 Some private accounts may be restricted, but no account can be “locked down” completely. And, there is much more information about an individual online than they realize. Everyone has a digital footprint that can be tracked, so it is important to reflect the person you want online. This is also true for businesses, as well as their reputations and how they manage them.
