Innovation: A Journey of Innovation
Jovaag began his career in aquatic glazing in 1990. His career would last for more than 30 years. “I began my career in this industry at a very young age, working on small aquariums around Las Vegas,” he said in our interview. He began his career in the aquarium industry by working for a different company. His ambition and vision led him to explore acrylic window installation in swimming pools.
Collaboration with Builders
Jovaag’s role as a leader in the pool and Spa industry is centered around collaborations with builders. He is prone to taking on projects which pushes the boundaries what’s possible. He explained, “We were part of some very large marquee projects which launched the pool windows industry for us and gained a lot more notoriety.”
The Market Square Tower, located in Houston, was one of the projects that made Jovaag Aquatics and Hammerhead Aquatics famous. The iconic project included an acrylic pool that was cantilevered over 55 stories, giving swimmers a vertigo-inducing, exhilarating experience. The project attracted international attention and set a trend for high-rise pools around the world.
Jovaag said, “I had no idea it would catch on as fast as it did.” The whole thing started with a travel blog who came to a pool that we had built. He filmed himself walking around the swimming pool. “As he looked downward, you could see the pavement 55 stories below.
Market Square Tower has not only impressed spectators, but also media outlets around the world. Hammerhead Aquatics was credited as the innovator behind this revolutionary concept.

Market Square Tower’s success also sparked a trend within the industry. A number of high profile acrylic pool projects followed suit. Jovaag admitted that the acrylic pools built on top of skyscrapers started a trend.
Jovaag, who has been in the industry for over 30 years, sees an increasing trend of high-rise developments adding more pools to their individual complexes. He said that it’s not unusual to see 10-30 pools on individual high-rise complexes.
Navigating Global Markets
Hammerhead Aquatics is active in many regions of the world. Jovaag provided insights on the challenges and opportunities that are presented by each market. The international markets present unique challenges. These include language barriers and the necessity to educate local contractors about the intricacies involved in installing acrylic pool windows.
Jovaag said, “We have done projects in Hong Kong, mainland China and the Dominican Republic. The international dynamic adds complexity to our job, whether there is a language barrier, or logistical challenges.”
Its ability to adapt to these challenges, and its commitment to educate partners and contractors has been crucial in successfully navigating different markets.
Beyond Swimming Pools
Jovaag has been a leader in the spa and swimming pool industry for many years, but they have also taken on other projects. Their collaboration with Shields Sporting Goods was notable, as they created an immersive experience at the store’s entrance using acrylic aquariums.
Jovaag provided insights into this unique project. He stated, “As soon as you enter their entrance, it’s like walking through an aquarium experience.” The three cylinders are aquariums and a large bonded piece is placed on top.
The involvement of the company in a variety of projects shows its commitment to exploring new possibilities in the field acrylic glass installations.
Consulting and Industry Expertise
Jovaag is a pioneer in the field of acrylic pools, and has played a vital role as a consultant and educator. He has been a contributor to educational classes and audio podcasts for various groups in the industry, including Genesis, Watershape University and offering his expertise so that contractors can work safely.
Pricing is a major challenge in the industry, since acrylic pool installation differs significantly from traditional pool construction . Jovaag warned that “the acrylic and complexity of the material is not priced like other components” Contractors are often asking for pricing based on square footage, but this can cause complications. Jovaag’s guidance can help industry professionals navigate these complexities.
Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility
In today’s society, sustainability is becoming a major concern. Jovaag Aquatics and Hammerhead Aquatics have taken steps to incorporate environmental responsibility and sustainable practices into their business. They take part in recycling programs at larger construction sites, and they have a program to recycle acrylic materials. This allows for the repurposing of materials and reduces waste.
Jovaag said, “We’ve been focusing on sustainability as the world changes and we face new challenges in terms of environmental protection for many years.” The commitment of the company to environmentally-conscious and innovative solutions is reflected in its commitment to responsible practices.
Fostering Innovation
Hammerhead Aquatics is committed to pushing the limits of innovation in an industry that is constantly evolving. The company works closely with its clients to streamline projects and minimize waste. It also simplifies designs in order to maximize the use of materials. This approach improves not only the quality of the product, but also fosters a culture of innovative thinking within the company.
Emerging Industry Trends
Pool and spa industries are experiencing exciting trends. Jovaag emphasized a move towards simplicity in pool design. He focused on smaller, more intimate spaces, which maximized the use of acrylic. He noted that the trend is towards simplicity. We’re seeing an increase in spa windows that are not too large. They can be used as light fixtures to give the yard a new dynamic.
In a world post-COVID, the idea of creating immersive backyard experience has also gained significant traction. Jovaag said that the trend was towards backyard retreats and outdoor living. People are seeing their homes as sanctuaries, and they want to enjoy their own private spaces.
Acrylic Glass Pools: The Future of Pool Design
According to Jovaag, the future of the industry is marked by a variety of design concepts, and an increase in demand for innovative and personalized pool and spa experience.
Not all trends are upward. In some areas, such as Jovaag’s hometown Las Vegas where restrictions are in place, pools with smaller footprints have become more common. Jovaag says homeowners are looking to maximize their investment in pools by incorporating intricate design, water elements, fire features, and innovative lighting. Acrylic glass is now more important in many pool designs because it can be used as a canvas to showcase these elements.
Jason Jovaag, Hammerhead Aquatics and the industry will continue to innovate as the consumer’s preferences change. They will continue to shape industry’s future with their dedication to pushing the boundaries, expertise as consultants and teachers, and commitment to sustainability.
