James “Jim” Batts (member of the Florida Swimming Pool Association) has been reappointed as a member of the Florida Building Commission.
Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Batts and ten others were to be added to the FBC last month. Governor Rick Scott first appointed Batts to the commission in 2013.
Batts says, “I am grateful to have been reappointed to this commission for another term.” It is an honor to represent the swimming pool industry and make sure that Florida’s building codes work for us and all Florida residents, businesses, visitors.
Batts is president of The Batts Company which is a pool construction and remodeling business that serves the northeast Florida region. He was a past president of the state board and is currently a member of FSPA. He was also the chairman of the St. Johns County contractor’s review panel.
Dallas Thiesen (FSPA senior director for government affairs) said, “We are delighted Jim was reappointed” His knowledge and experience is unparalleled in the construction of swimming pools and spas.
Batts is by statute the only representative of the pool industry on the commission. The FBC is responsible on a triennial base for the adoption and updating of the Florida Building Code.
FSPA is a trade organization that is overseen by a board for the Florida pool and spa industry. The state has approximately 750 members in 16 chapters. The code of ethics is enforced and members must be licensed and insured. FSPA offers continuing education, information about current trends and issues, as well as representation in government relations.
