After studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, he settled in Austin, Texas, where he joined the world-renowned rock band Spoon. His time with the band, filled with constant global tours and a Grammy nomination, was both exhilarating and hectic.
“Touring the world with Spoon was an absolute whirlwind and I’m grateful for the experience,” Gerardo reflects. “But amidst the excitement, I found myself falling into destructive habits. Life on the road can be really tough. Being away from family for long periods, random sleep schedules, eating unhealthy food, drinking before and after shows, etc. It got to the point where I was racked with anxiety and depression.”
Determined to make significant changes for the sake of his mental health and his family, Gerardo embarked on a journey of wellness, meditation and sobriety. Central to this transformation was the regular use of saunas.
Initially a method to detoxify from years of unhealthy habits, saunas quickly became an integral part of his daily routine, providing both physical and mental health benefits.
“My personal journey led me to realize the incredible benefits of sauna use,” he says. “It became my sanctuary, a place to heal, meditate, and grow stronger. It became a place my wife and I enjoyed spending device-free time connecting regularly with our kids. I wanted to share this life-changing experience with others, which is why I founded Öli Saunas.”
