It is a great time to review the basics of pool management as you begin planning for the 2023 season. The industry is constantly changing, which means pool professionals have to be prepared for the shift in variable speed pump (VSP). Service professionals can be confident that they will tackle common problems in the coming season by preparing to service variable-speed pumps.

Maintaining safety

Safety of the customer and worker is paramount whenever there is concern about equipment. A thorough inspection of the pool pump’s containment and exposed plumbing should be done. Before working on equipment, service professionals must locate the main electrical circuit breaker panel. This will allow them to identify the breaker that is responsible for the pool pump. When opening or checking pipes, a system should not be turned on. Before attempting to maintain the equipment, the circuit breaker should always be switched off so that no power is flowing to it.

Optimizing flow

Variable-speed pumps use less energy than single-speed pumps. The flow rate is the most important factor to consider when servicing a pool that has the former. The flow rate is the volume of water that passes through the pump. This step is crucial in determining the water turnover rate necessary to maintain clear water and sanitation conditions. To maintain pool conditions, the flow rate must be regularly tested and adjusted.
