To extend its 40-year lifespan, the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre in Saskatoon will be undergoing major renovations. The pool will therefore be closed for 18-24 months.
Project costs are estimated at $13.4 million. $10 million came from the federal Green and Inclusive Community Building Program. Due to the pool’s availability, more repairs were possible than initially planned.
The pool basin will be replaced and the solar panels installed. Roof, water treatment system and mechanical systems will also be repaired.
Accessibility will be a key focus of the project. The front entrance, changerooms and insulation all underwent major renovations. These renovations will make the pool a more attractive training facility for athletes and also provide benefits to all users.
The city is well aware of the inconvenience caused by the closure and will rush to other pools. However, residents will still be welcome to swim in public swimming pools and aquacise.
