David Barnsley, former Pool & Spa Marketing editor, passes

David Barnsley, former Editor of Pool & Spa Marketing, Piscines & Spas, Pools, Spas & Patios, has passed away.

David Barnsley, an editor and writer in the pool and spa industries for many years, passed away recently at the age 67, after a long illness.

Barnsley began his career in 1987 as a consumer and trade magazine editor with Hubbard Marketing & Publishing Ltd. Over the course of more than 20 years, he has contributed to the success and growth of Pool & Spa Marketing as well as Piscines & Spas. He was also the editor of Pool & Spa Living, a magazine for consumers that was sold to a publisher in America; and Pools, Spas & Patios, a magazine for consumers providing useful insights and advice to a broad readership.

Barnsley continued to edit these titles in 2008 for nearly two years, after Kenilworth Media Inc. purchased Hubbard Marketing & Publishing Ltd. and its three magazines as well as the Art of Water Design Awards.

Barnsley was a provincial government employee before he became editor. He also achieved academically – he earned a French Literature degree from McGill University, and a Foreign Affairs degree from Carlton University. The educational background he received enhanced his knowledge of culture, language and global affairs.

Barnsley was loved by his family, co-workers, and friends for his reserved demeanor, sharp intellect, and his achievements.
