Cornwall, Ont. has set aside more than $1,000,000 for upgrades and repairs to its Mattice Pool. The city of Cornwall, Ontario, is addressing the deteriorating pools at its outdoor pools: Mattice, St. Francis and Reg Campbell Pools.
A report from the Cornwall Standard Freeholder states that the project is scheduled to begin in 2023. It involves the replacement of concrete walls, and the updating of plumbing.
In the report, it is mentioned that Cornwall’s Council approved a local firm, Grant-Marion Construction Ltd. at a bid price of over $1.3 million. The total bid cost of more than $1.3 million is higher than the $525,000 budgeted for the year 2023. Costs will be spread over 10 years.
The report also highlights that the decision is in line with the goals of recreation master plan which prioritises the improvement and rejuvenation of outdoor pools and the facilities they accompany. The plan focuses specifically on areas that have significant demand, advocating accessibility improvements and modernization initiatives for Mattice, St. Francis and Reg Campbell Pools. Each spring, due to the age of the pool basins and the need for extensive repairs to get them ready for the summer swimming season, the plan focuses on areas with significant demands.
