Residents of Inglewood in Calgary recently held a rally to try and save their local swimming pool, which is set to close by end of this year.
Per a report by CBC, the city council voted to close the pool in 2019 as part of a budget reduction, citing unsustainable long-term operating costs and low usage. However, in 2021, residents convinced the city to keep the facility open until construction work was completed.
In May this year, the council found major issues with the facility’s electrical system. The repairs would cost $600,000 and lead to a three-month closure of the pool.
The land will be used as part of the proposed redevelopment of the area. The Inglewood Aquatic Centre will permanently close on December 22.
