Bob Mellon is a respected industry veteran in the city of Fresno. He has over 30 years of experience creating custom pools and backyards. Mellon was recently invited to a sit-down to talk about his business, his journey and some of his most impressive projects.
Mellon began his journey in the pool industry when he moved from the Yosemite Foothills to Fresno to attend college. He was able to get a job pouring concrete while he attended school at one of his competitors through a twist of fate. Mellon quickly realized that construction was his true passion and not college. Mellon began to develop his skills. He started with concrete, and then moved on to plumbing and electrical work.
Mellon recalls those early days with a touch of nostalgia. “My first years in the pool business were filled with construction. It’s my passion. I wear jeans and boots everyday, jackhammering and wheelbarrowing and guniting. “I enjoy that part more.”
Build with a Personal touch
Mellon’s firm is known for its exceptional craftsmanship, but also because of its unwavering commitment to fulfilling the dreams of its customers. Mellon credits his family-run business for this commitment. He elaborates: “My niece designs pools and sells them for me. She is very creative and has been the inspiration behind many of our unique pools. Unfortunately, it’s hard for me to say no. I am very competitive and want to provide customers with what they want. Why limit the vision of our customers when we can make it a reality?”
Nikki Mellon is Bob’s niece and she plays a crucial role in the creation of innovative pool designs. Signature Pools has become known for their breathtaking pool designs. Mellon believes in allowing customers to dream, which is testament to his commitment to make every project exceptional.
The Power of Family
Mellon shares with pride that “family is the core of our company”. The office manager is my wife’s cousin. My wife and I help with the bookkeeping, while my brother-in law sells pools. “We all care about one another, and want to deliver the highest quality product.”
The Mellons’ sense of camaraderie, shared commitment and dedication to their craft infuses each project with a unique touch that ensures customers are not only satisfied but delighted with the final result. In every aspect of the Mellons’ business, their dedication to their craft is evident.
Creating the Signature Experience
Mellon’s firm is distinguished from its competitors by its focus on personal involvement, project supervision and customer communication. Mellon saw that many pool construction firms lacked these essential elements, which led him to develop a new approach.
We have a website that keeps people informed of project and scheduling updates. My office keeps in touch with clients to keep them informed of the progress of the project. We are both hands-on in the construction process, working with employees and contractors. Mellon says that the goal is to get it done right, so homeowners can enjoy a more pleasant experience.
It’s not just a slogan, but a way to do business. Mellon’s presence on site and open lines of communications ensure that the client’s vision comes to life.
Designing for the Future: Staying ahead of the Design Curve
California is known as a leader in pool designs and has influenced the entire industry. Mellon’s insight on the Fresno industry is interesting. “It has been fascinating to watch the changes over the years.” Customers are looking for a complete backyard experience at the moment. “There’s a resurgence of outdoor living, with contemporary, simple styles on the rise.”
Signature Pools & Spa Inc. adopts these trends and focuses on usability, functionality, and a enjoyable experience all year round. They aim to create pools with artistic and visual features that will captivate their customers and make them want to use their backyards as an entertainment area all year round.
Plan for pool project success
Mellon encourages pool and spa owners who are considering a project to look beyond the pool. “I ask questions about the master plan. What will the yard look like when the project has been completed? Are you planning to use a barbecue in the future? Do you have a pergola planned? We can help homeowners achieve their dreams by understanding the way the family plans to use the backyard.
Mellon’s proactive approach to pool design and its attention to context will ensure that each project is seamlessly integrated with the overall property design, creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing space.
Project Case Study
Mellon’s firm is known for its stunning projects . Each project is a testament to the company’s expertise and commitment. Mellon said that while the company has many notable projects, one in particular had left an impression on him.
A Luxury Backyard Oasis We decided to have a large slide and waterfall. The pool was equipped with laminar jets, bubblers and barstools around a sunken firepit in the water. The pool has a 360-degree view. The interior is made of pebbles and has a lot of lighting.
Obstacles during Construction: Because we were working on solid granite, we had to rent an excavator of 18 tons with a jackhammer. It’s always a memorable experience. It was a challenging project with a wide range of interesting aspects.
The Legacy continues
