Aquamatic Cover Systems is a world leader in automatic pool covers and has served customers around the globe for more than 40 years. The company was founded in 1978 and has spent 43 years developing some of the most reliable and innovative pool covers available. Aquamatic’s dual-motor hydraulic system is a patented design that focuses on simplicity and durability.

Not all pool covers are created equal

Aquamatic’s dedication to innovation allows designers and builders to install custom covers on almost any type of swimming pools. The company has developed some of most durable automatic covers available on the market, while staying true to its mission of creating products that are elegantly simplistic with the fewest moving parts. Aquamatic is a thought leader and innovator. They hold more patents for automatic and manual pool safety covers combined than any other company.

We spoke to Aquamatic Cover Systems, Vice President, in order to better understand their product range and why they remain a favorite brand among consumers. We began with a simple question: What makes Aquamatic different from other pool covers available on the market?

“That is a good question. When you compare two photos of pool covers, they look almost identical. The styles are the same. “But what makes our system unique is the heart and soul,” says Dankel.

We began with electric covers back in the seventies. In the eighties we began experimenting with hydraulic drives. We wanted to move electric motors from poolside. In the late 1980s, we had our first prototypes and in 1994, we were only using hydraulics,” said Dankel.

Aquamatic Cover Systems is the leader in automatic pool covers. They have been doing this for 43 years.

The Differentiator

The drive unit is what makes our system unique. This is the most durable component and will last the longest of all the other components,” said Dankel. “It’s a fluid hydraulic drive without any mechanical linkage. The mechanism is service-free and has no lubrication point. The dual motor system is closed loop and has no mechanical linkage, so there’s also no clutch. “Every other automatic cover produced in the US has some sort of clutch system, because they only have one motor drive. We developed the dual motor systems.”

Create Superior Automatic Pool Covers

Aquamatic is considered by many industry experts as the leading technology in automatic covers. It’s also backed up by a superior guarantee. “We did not invent hydraulics but we invented hydraulic pool covers. We looked at ways to make it as simple and robust as possible. The brushes used in car washes are powered by hydraulic torque motors. We use the same motor in our automatic pool cover,” said Dankel.

“The wear and tear a typical carwash might experience in a single day could be enough to deplete the service life of ONE of our covers. We can back up this warranty with a 20 year guarantee because our components are designed to last for a long time. “If for some reason, the motor fails, we will happily replace it, without asking any questions,” said Dankel.

HydraLux & Hydramatic provide a 20-year limited warranty on hydraulic components.

There are clear differences

Aquamatic Cover Systems offers several product lines. However, Hydramatic remains their flagship product. “That’s our fully automatic system, which is also an ASTM approved safety cover. Then we have the Hydramatic accessories,” said Dankel.

The Easy Cover is another popular product from Aquamatic. Its versatility and ease of operation are its hallmarks. It’s an entry-level manual cover, which looks and works like an automatic cover but does not have the automatic component.

The Hydralux offers a high degree of customization, allowing for more customized applications. The unique design eliminates traditional automatic pool covers’ rope/track/leading-edge bar interface, and allows pools previously unable to accommodate an automatic cover.

Every automatic safety cover has tracks. The cover will always be rectangular, even if the pool is freeform. Hydralux uses extruded PVC and polycarbonate slats, which we can cut into any shape. We can start wide and then go narrow. We can make converging shapes, as it’s not telescopic. “We did one with a 30-foot radius and the cover was cut to fit the shape of the vanishing-edge pool,” said Dankel.

Aquamatic Cover Systems has been the leader in pool safety cover innovation since 1980.

Sustainable Development: A New Focus

Aquamatic’s solar covers are also well-known in the industry. “One was actually right in our backyard. It was a community college with a pool that has two sections,” said Dankel.

The main body of the swimming pool measures 60’x95 on the east and 45’x65 on the west. The blankets were being deployed by multiple rollers, and several people. The wind is a big problem in that area,” said Dankel. “The wind would take the covers and bundles them up. It was very labor-intensive.

We have a cover that is not affected by this. You can’t put obstructions around these commercial pools. We used solar for our hydraulic drive unit, because these superstructures move. This pool can be moved 10ft to allow for the operator to place starting blocks during competitions. It was an awesome project,” said Dankel.

Aquamatic Cover Systems is a popular choice for pool owners. It has been around for more than 40 years. The firm’s hallmarks are its exceptional quality, flexible customization options, commitment towards customer service and innovative technologies. Aquamatic Cover Systems has earned a reputation for reliability and quality, which makes them the gold standard of the pool cover industry.
