Vandals caused Vanderhoof’s aquatic centre to be shut down temporarily. The centre was temporarily shut down and $500,000 of damages were caused by flooding it with 600,000 L (1.585 gal) water.
This is the third incident reported in the province. Pool & Spa Marketing reported a vandalism incident at Fernie aquatic center in November 2022. Broken glass was scattered across the pool deck and into its main pool. In B.C., other vandalism incidents have been reported at aquatic centers in the interior communities.
Investigations by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are continuing on this case.

The Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre, which is four years old, is owned by the Vanderhoof district. It is located 100km (62 mil) west Prince George and has a population less than 4,500. The YMCA of Northern B.C. runs the centre.
