Ajax has committed to installing a new, energy-efficient motorized pool cover at the Ajax Community Centre. This will reduce heating costs and CO2 emissions. This cover will be used for pool closures.
Elexicon Group Inc., a company that provides energy equipment and solutions, approached Ajax, Ont. in February 2022 to discuss a partnership opportunity. The goal was to install motorized pool covers in the city’s indoor pools. The city will test the cover at ACC to determine its effectiveness and impact.
Here are some of the benefits that pool coverage can bring:
- Reduce heat loss and evaporation by 95%
- This will greatly extend the life expectancy of expensive dehumidification equipment and reduce energy costs related to pool heating and dehumidification.
- Save approximately $20,000 annually on operating costs for the pool.
- By removing the chlorine odor, you can improve the air quality around the pool and in the surrounding areas.
“It is a proud moment to see that the Town has partnered again with Elexicon to bring an innovative concept to one our facilities. He hopes other municipalities will use this technology to help protect the environment.
