Mercer Island is suspended in Lake Washington between Seattle and Bellevue. The island is home to some of the most luxurious estates in the Pacific Northwest. Waterfront properties can cost upwards of 30 million dollars. Nestled in the hills overlooking Seattle’s skyline is a unique property called Mercer Island Modern.
The two-level house, designed by Garret Werner, has three bedrooms and is divided into two levels by two bridges. One of them is exposed to the elements, while the other one is hidden inside the home.
Visitors will see the main design element as they enter the house from the driveway: a reflecting water feature. The experience of walking over and up to water both inside and out of the house creates a dramatic, tranquil feeling. This is something that you rarely find in residential buildings.
The interior bridge is enclosed in glass and leads into the living room, dining room, and kitchen. All of these rooms are designed with an open concept. The glass walls open up to the Seattle landscape with a terrace that extends eastward.
A lap pool divides the living room from the master suite in the middle of the house. The terrace and walkway that surrounds it offer a beautiful view of Lake Washington.
The last water design element is the jacuzzi, which has an infinity edge. This gives the impression that water spills over the edge and onto the Seattle horizon.
