Swimmer recounts experiencing hot tub explosion at U.S. fitness centre

A woman who was in the pool of a fitness centre in North Providence, Rhode Island, when a jacuzzi nearby burst out of the floor, shares her account of the incident.

Recently, at the North Providence Pool & Fitness Center in Rhode Island, the hot tub unexpectedly surged upward from the floor in a powerful explosion. A woman who was in the pool when the jacuzzi nearby burst out of the floor has shared her account of the incident.

According to a report by Fox Rochester, a member of the fitness centre says she was swimming laps and was taken by surprise when she heard a series of loud noises. Initially, she did not pay too much attention to the sounds, assuming that any significant issue would be communicated to her. She continued her laps, only to be approached by a lifeguard, who urgently instructed her to leave the pool. At the time, the woman thought the noises might have been caused by barrels colliding, although she could not comprehend the source or reason for the commotion.

According to a report by WJAR, when firefighters first arrived at the scene, they were uncertain about the cause of the event.

The fire chief shared with the reporter, “The Jacuzzi had risen approximately 4 ft [1.2 m] above its original installation level; it was situated underground. The scene bore a striking resemblance to an earthquake, with everything shaken and disarrayed.”

The report by Fox Rochester continued that the explosion was apparently triggered by a chlorine-related incident involving pipes underneath the hot tub, which had remained closed since the pandemic.

Consequently, now both the pool and the entire facility, which is managed by the town, have been shut down indefinitely.
