A Florida man has been hailed as a hero for rushing into action when a woman drove into the swimming pool of an apartment complex located in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday. The heroic act was witnessed by shocked spectators.
Witnesses who heard a loud crash were drawn to the pool by the submerged sedan and the trapped female driver. Residents claim that the driver mistakenly hit the gas instead of the breaks, which caused her to crash into a fence next to the parking lot.
T.J. Yarborough – a resident from the complex – wasted no time in diving into the water. He saw that the woman, who was terrified, could not exit the car. The door remained closed despite his attempts to open it.
The water level was rising and I could not open the door. Yarborough said in an interview that the electric windows still worked, so he rolled them down to tell her it was time for her to leave. “I got her out of the vehicle, and she’s safe.”
Unidentified driver expressed gratitude for the quick rescue. She was visibly shaken, but fortunately unharmed. Emergency crews recovered the damaged car from the pool later. Residents were relieved that the area was not crowded at the time.
Sonia Valentin, a resident, said that the most important thing was that no one had been injured. “Especially on a sunny day like today.”
The authorities are conducting an investigation in order to determine the cause for the accident.
