LaurenHill Academy’s St. Laurent Junior Campus celebrated the completion in December 2022 of a $1.9million renovation project. This included its swimming pool, locker room, and bathrooms. The work began in June 2020.
The English Montreal School Board (EMSB), provided funding for the multi-year renovations. The first areas to be renovated were the swimming pool and locker room. Six months after the renovations began, the pool had new concrete floors, podiums, and a filter system. After the September 2022 completion of work, locker rooms were equipped with concrete floors in a grey and red arrangement. Additional features such as single-stall showers and blow dryers, tiled walls, storage lockers and sinks, as well single-stall toilets were installed. The locker room renovations also included a complete overhaul of the washrooms.
Julie Ramundo is a LaurenHill Academy physical education teacher. “It’s water safety and the importance understanding how water works,” she says. “LaurenHill Academy is unique because it gives kids the opportunity to play in a swimming pool.
