KIK Consumer Products celebrates the Grand Reopening at BioLab Lake Charles Facility

Reopening of a $250M state-of-the art trichlor plant, with increased production flexibility. This facility is ready for the 2023 pool season

LA CHARLES, La., November 2, 20,22_KIK Consumer Products (“KIK”), a global leader for pool, household cleaning and automotive products, celebrated today the successful reconstruction of its subsidiary BioLab, a state-of the-art trichlor manufacturing facility in Westlake (La.), just outside of Lake Charles. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Senator Bill Cassidy and Clay Higgins, Congressman from Louisiana, and Don Pierson (Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development), BioLab employees, local partners, including the Lake Charles Metal Trades Council and others.

“Today marks a fresh beginning for BioLab, and it is the culmination over 26 months worth of planning, engineering and construction and commissioning,” stated Jeff Schmitt COO of KIK Consumer Products. “Our plant is here today to show the resilience of our workforce, and the people of Louisiana that made this project possible. We have fulfilled our promise to rebuild and reinvest in the future not only of this facility, but also of this community, thanks to the support of people, businesses, law enforcement and other institutions around Lake Charles.

The Company spent over $250 million to rebuild and reopen its damaged facility after the devastating impact of Hurricane Laura in 2020. Nearly 80 union jobs will be created at the new facility. This reflects BioLab’s determination to continue its long-standing Louisiana roots. The facility has been reconstructed with greater production flexibility. This will allow BIOLAB to better meet the pool cleaning product demand. The facility will be equipped with many safety features such as improved structural ratings, a ride-out shelter and elevated control room, as well as improved fire detection systems and extinguishing methods.

Michael Sload is the CEO of KIK Consumer Products. He stated that “we are thrilled to reopen the BioLab facility in order to support the 2023 swimming pool season and to fulfill our promise to Lake Charles to rebuild.” We are grateful to all our valued stakeholders, from our employees to our trusted retailers partners to the community. We look forward to continuing our 40-year-old history in Lake Charles and bringing products to millions more Americans who help keep their swimming pools and spas safe and clean for many years to come.

Don Brunette is the BioLab’s Plant manager. He said that BioLab employees were excited to return to work, and it was a joy to share this moment with all of our stakeholders. We are happy to welcome our team back into our newly renovated facility. It is one of the best trichlor production plants in the world, and it is stronger and more secure than ever before.
