IPEX by Aliaxis: Guardian Double Containment Piping Systems

Guardian PVC and CPVC Double Containment Piping Systems from IPEX by Aliaxis feature Centra-lok molded supports, engineered to average 40 to 60 percent fewer overall joints and up to 10 percent fewer field joints compared to conventional containment systems.

Recognizing that pipe joints are the most common source of premature leaks and system failures, IPEX has designed Centra-lok to minimize maintenance, repair and installation costs. The innovative simplicity of the patented Centra-lok design is also intended to reduce material cost, helping to make Guardian the industry’s most cost-effective vinyl-by-vinyl containment system for commercial, industrial, and municipal water and wastewater applications.

The pressure-rated Guardian Double Containment system is available in a variety of vinyl-by-vinyl pipe combinations for both the outside containment line and the carrier line inside. Available vinyl materials include:

  • Industrial-grade Xirtec PVC: white Schedule 40, gray Schedule 80, and clear Schedule 40 and Schedule 80

  • High-temperature industrial-grade Xirtec CPVC: gray Schedule 40 and Schedule 80.

Pipe diameters are from ½-inch to 18 inches for the carrier line and 2 to 24 inches for the containment line. CPVC containment is available up to 16 inches and PVC clear containment up to 8 inches.

System fittings include tees; 45 and 90 degree elbows; termination fittings and leak detection stations; as well as a contained ball valve. Fittings are available in white Schedule 40 PVC and Schedule 80 PVC or CPVC in gray.

IPEX also offers a Guardian Double Containment system for drain, waste, and vent (DWV) applications called Drain-Guard. Both carrier and containment lines are PVC and range in size from 1½ by 4 inches to 8 by 12 inches (carrier x containment). Fittings are PVC DWV pattern.

As with all IPEX containment products, the Guardian Containment system is available with the patented Centra-Guard electronic low point leak detection or cable leak detection systems. This system minimizes material, installation, and maintenance costs while reducing false alarms.

“For more than 25 years, Guardian systems have been the benchmark in pressure and drainage double containment,” says Steve Dolejsi, P. Eng, Applications Engineering Manager for IPEX USA. “IPEX not only designs and fabricates the systems, but also controls the blending of the PVC resin, plus the extrusion and injection molding of most components. Our objective is to produce a superior piping system through a consistency of quality, resin, and dimensional compatibility that is unmatched in the industry.”
